  • I haven’t had a ton of exposure to the different candidates apart from television ads, which I oft ignore. So this debate was really my full impression. Here is what I think.

    The Conservative Party
Ok, I am a firm believer in the traditional definition of marriage as something biblical, but honestly that’s where my agreement with this party ends, and let me assure you, it’s not the issue that makes and breaks everything. The other day my mother called the conservatives “The Christian Party” honestly, I think “The American Party” would be more apt. They want to agree with Bush unconditionally, as well as put money into our own military so that we can help him that much more. They also strike me as extremely capitalist. From health care to government funded anything, Harper wants to cut taxes, and give less. And as much as I’m sure everyone loves less taxes, I’d much rather see more tax, more free government services. For example, child care. He wants to lower taxes to people with children, as opposed to letting the taxes be, and providing an actual day care system, or at least funding to lower the prices of the existing ones.

    The Liberals
I’m not really sure what they believe on anything. Martin would never really say anything other then “Trust me, they don’t know what their talking about, I’m good, really, I am.“ Martin’s opinion is only ever made clear by what everyone else says. And even those things I don’t really like. I’m not a fan of private health care (I guess I’m a commy at heart), and… I don’t know what else he stands for… um… what was I watching for 2 hours?

    Bloc Quebecois
I like what he has to say. He seems to have a good grasp of things. The biggest problem: He’s just to damn French! Haha, ok, I don’t mean it like that. Duceppe seems to be concerned with only Quebec, and the separation there of. Well, I think separation is a bad idea, but I see where the guy is coming from. He’s only really looking for the French vote. Still though, several times I liked him the best. Haha, he’s even the most articulate, next to Harper, and English is his second language.

    The New Democratic Party
He’s not perfect. Somehow I always feel like the guy is saying whatever would sound nice. But he’s not as bad as the liberals, at least he takes a stand on things. I think he’s got my vote.

Oh, and if someone wants to convince me the discluded green party is best, I’m all ears (or eyes, as the case may be).

  • from the debate, my favorite candidat was most certainly the bloc guy.  he was just hilarious in his own condescending french way that i was totally getting into.  but alas the bloc quebecois isn't a really part, yet more of an excuse for the french in quebec to be heard...  so i think my votes still with Layton.  and now it's not only because i'm a socialist and respect him as an individual, after watching the debate it is now also because of his mustashe.  very formitable. very formitable indeed.

  • when was this debate and why did i miss it? :O

thank you for the post aron.. score! another NDP vote.. that made me happy lol

and i know what you mean about the liberals!! holy.. i even went to their website and they say NOTHING about what they stand for. i wish i could see a debate.. with all my free time though, all i have done is read stuff online.. the NDP even has a consistant and accessible website.. i liked theirs the best.

and dan can look at his mustache, cuz he has a huge ass picture of himself lol.. janel will like it too.. she thinks he's a hunk or something.

  • Aron, catch me on MSN sometime. I want to send you a video.

  • woah. i just keep commenting.

but i remembered when your xanga had oranges on it. and elite hax0r kid typing. RIP. along with the professor weed picture :D

  • So which party is Layton the leader of?

  • lol, i'm glad to see we are all so politically informed... and aron the Conservative... they are the 'Christian Party', they have been for the past....2004-(    )... aww crap i don't remember when canada was founded :S....150+years! (ha that's a safe bet:)).
Please don't vote NDP, they are the ones that through money at things and hope it works... no accountablility and the like, seriously... ask anyone over 25.   ...plus you don't really want everyone super dependant on the government do you?.... indoctrinating our children...? i certainly don't. :S

  • Last time you went to the doctor, did he try and convince you that there was no God? As a matter of fact, did he in any way represent the view of the govourment? I can understand complaining about public education, but I find it hard to believe you don't want that. Socialism isn't about depending on the govourment, it's about being helpfull. Tax the rich and give free service to the poor. Force people to help each other.

Rather then a sort of "let everyone fend for themselves" method in which the screwed get more so, and well of have no care in the world.

    Indoctrination... pft! whatever!

  • Tim I wouldn't be so quick to condemn the NDP party.  They've only had one chance (like 11 years ago) and they weren't prepared - partially because they were as surprised as the rest of the country that they even won the election.  True as it may be that they messed up when they did have a chance - they weren't in for long and since the rest of the parties aren't looking all that great - I'm all for giving the NDP's another opportunity.  They've got my vote.
